KENNETH M. BERNSTEIN attended Columbia College and Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and received his J.D. degree in 1989.
From 1989-98, Mr. Bernstein was a commercial litigator at the law firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell. His case load included matters involving corporate conflicts, mergers and acquisitions, and high-tech business litigation.
From 1998-2009, Mr. Bernstein specialized in intellectual property law at the law firm of Amster Rothstein & Ebenstein, where he was a partner from 2004-09. He handled patent, trademark and copyright prosecution, licensing, enforcement and litigation, as well as the negotiation and drafting of IP and commercial agreements.
In 2009, he opened his own law practice in Irvington, New York, in Westchester County, sharing office space with his wife Dr. Debra Bernstein's optometry practice Squint Optometry. Mr. Bernstein has been involved in the local community as a Trustee for the Village of Irvington, Chairperson of the Business Improvement Committee and member of the Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a member of the Irvington Zoning Board of Appeals and the New York State Bar Association.
Acts as general counsel and intellectual property counsel for a major window shade manufacturer, assisting with IP portfolios, commercial contracts, employment matters and infringement claims.
Longstanding counsel for biotech company involved in the research and development of laboratory instruments, from start-up to 20+ employees, including labor issues, patent licensing and joint ventures.
Obtained favorable settlement for best-selling novelist in litigation against publishing house for false copyright and breach of contract, including recovery of damages and reversion of book rights.
